Blast Off!

10.24.2009
Time: 1:15:10 MST
Weather Conditions: Acceptable
Mission Status: Clear for Launch

Jonny finally finished his rocket he got for Christmas in 2002.

Christmas 2002
Only took him 7 years :)

Jonny has grown a bit in that time.
It was a beautiful, clear day for launch.
We were a little bit concerned
about our proximity to the freeway.
Doug said if you hear a car crash, everybody run!
We were also worried that the Air Force
had cleared a no-fly zone in our area for the air show
they were providing for the Utah game.
Grandma Weiler & Hannah
If anybody asks, it wasn't us! :D

Hannah & Rob

The last rocket we launched
we never recovered.
This time we were equipped
with a good recovery crew!
Alexis & Roman

Our spotter!
Mission Success!!!

Happy Haunts

Check out our awesome Jack O' Lanterns!

We had a fabulous Halloween! Hannah went as Dragon Ninja Girl (I thought she was a geisha but Hannah corrected me on this :) It was a pretty warm evening for Halloween and Hannah came home with exactly (yes, she counted) 102 pieces of candy! Emily went as a Pep Club Cheerleader Zombie to the Highland Halloween Stomp and Jonny went as China Man to a party at the Skybox. Alexis went to the Utah Blackout game with her friends. Doug & I went as Little Red Riding Hood and the Woodsman to the Ward Halloween Party. Doug said he would protect me from the wolves!

Jonny's V-2 Rocket Launch

We are having a Rocket Launch Celebration on October 24, 2009 to commemorate the completion of Jonny's German V-2 Rocket that Uncle Rob gave him a decade ago. It's about time. The celebration will begin with food and fun at the Hardy Home at 12:30 pm. We will head down to the Elementary where the Launch is set for 1:00 pm. Pray for clear weather!

Ghosts of Halloween Past

I think our favorite Halloween ever was in 2002. Grandma Weiler made Alexis a leprechaun costume and Lexi was so happy she clicked her heels. Jonny and his friends borrowed genuine Highland High Cheerleader outfits and went as Highland Hotties. Grandma Weiler also made Emily her cute cheerleader outfit. (I tried to convince her to go red, but no dice.) Our Hannah banana was just so cute as the Littlest Witch. The weather was beautiful. This was at our home in Stratford East.

Autumn Treasures

Conference weekend was so beautiful! We headed up Millcreek Canyon for a picnic betougween Saturday sessions. We missed Jonny at our picnic. He was asked over to lunch by a really cute girl. There is already snow in our mountains. We found a fun spot by the creek to have our lunch and enjoy the changing colors. These are my autumn treasures.

What Matters Most

I believe that among the greatest lessons we are to learn
in this short sojourn upon the earth
are lessons that help us distinguish between
what is important and what is not.

And what is most important
almost always involves the people around us.
Often we assume that they must know
how much we love them.
But we should never assume; we should let them know.
Wrote William Shakespeare,
“They do not love that do not show their love.”

Despite the changes which come into our lives
and with gratitude in our hearts,
may we fill our days—as much as we can—
with those things which matter most.
May we cherish those we hold dear
and express our love to them in word and in deed.

Send that note to the friend you’ve been neglecting;
give your child a hug;
give your parents a hug;
say “I love you” more;
always express your thanks.
Never let a problem to be solved
become more important than a person to be loved.
~Thomas S. Monson
~~~~~~~~~~
I love this message from our Prophet.
It makes me realize
I need to show my love more often to you.
I love you, my family, so very much.
I love you my friends and appreciate your friendship.
You are what is most important to me.
Autumn Harvest
I just love autumn. I love the fall colors in all their splendor. I love the harvest. I have the most wonderful memories of harvesting fruits and vegetables with my family from our large garden when I was growing up. Our kitchen was a canning extravaganza. My mother was always covered in either raspberries or tomatoes. I think the amount of corn I’ve shucked in my lifetime is higher than I can count. Those were the days when parents had uninterrupted time to actually talk to their children. What else can you do when shucking corn? The smell of corn silk still evokes pleasant memories that make me smile. Our kids enjoy trekking through Uncle Rob's pumpkin patch to select that oh so perfect jack-o'-lantern!
